Chapter 8

Avery

I couldn't believe it. Dexter actually wanted a relationship with me. He wanted to be my Daddy, and he wanted me to be his boy. His Little. My heart soared and my Big thoughts started slipping away as my Little side took over. I wanted to tell someone, but since Daddy already knew, I settled for the next best thing.

My stuffed dinosaur, T-Rexxy.

“Daddy, can we go play now?”

Daddy tickled my sides and slipped me off his lap so I was standing on my feet. “Yep. You go get started, and I’ll clean up in here.”

“Okay!” I ran straight to my playroom. Daddy would deal with the dumb dishes and leftovers. I had important news to share. As soon as I got into my playroom, I grabbed my dino and dropped to my bottom on the carpet. "Guess what, T-Rexxy! Dexter, the hottest Daddy in the world, wants to be my Daddy!" I paused for dramatic effect, even though T-Rexxy wasn't exactly known for his witty comebacks. "And he makes milk. Like real milk. No more bottles!"

I rolled onto my back and held T-Rexxy in the air while I kicked my feet. “I know. It’s so cool. But don’t be jealous. We’ll find a Daddy Dino for you too. I can’t promise the milk thing because that’s special, but we’ll try.”

"Avery, are you ready to play with Daddy?" The sexy voice coming at me from the hallway was a huge relief. For once, I didn’t have to play all by myself.

"Yes, Daddy!" I put T-Rexxy on the floor and kneeled.

"What do you want to do, sweet boy?" Dexter sat down beside me, melting me with his loving gaze.

"Can we build towers and knock them down?" I asked, with my hands folded in front of me.

Dexter’s dimples brightened up his whole face as he chuckled. "Knock them down? After we work so hard to make a tower, you want to destroy it?"

“Yeah. Can we, Daddy?” I dove for the bin of blocks on the bottom shelf and pulled it forward. “You build. I’ll knock.”

We spent the next hour designing wooden masterpieces that T-Rexxy accidentally knocked over with his tail or head. It was so fun. I couldn't remember the last time I'd laughed so hard. Dexter really knew how to get into character, growling and roaring as he stomped all over the debris.

Eventually, I wasn’t able to hold back a yawn, and Daddy saw it. "Uh-oh. I think we should start thinking about getting you to bed."

"I’m not tired yet!" I pouted, but it morphed into a silly face when I tried to stop another yawn before it fully formed. “I wanna keep playing.”

"I know, baby.” He started picking up the blocks and neatly arranging them in the bin. “But we both have to be well-rested for work tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow is Friday, right?” I helped clean up and then looked at Daddy.

“Yes, today is Thursday and tomorrow’s Friday.”

“Can you sleep over on Friday since we don’t have to work on Saturday?”
